I am Senuri Jayawardena, an Environmental Science and Chemistry graduate who is passionate about working towards promoting environmental conservation at a grass-roots level through capacity development of communities.
I most recently worked with in the Small Grants program at the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) assisting to develop and implement community-driven projects that promote environmental conservation together with social entrepreneurship. I have also been volunteering as an active member of the Environmental Society at University of Peradeniya, furthering my interest in environmental sustainability.
Before working on these projects, I was of the belief that the change towards environmental sustainability should come solely from a policy level. But in both of these roles, I realized the importance of focusing on the community, for sustainable development to be visibly impactful. Therefore by working with GFF HELPS on their many community driven projects, I hope to constantly strive to serve the people and help save the environment while improving my skills in project management.
