Empowering Women and Supporting Children with Additional Needs

ONE DAY WORKSHOP TO TRAIN WOMEN TO PREPARE COVID-19 KITS.

Many people have lost their jobs during COVID-19. Women in particular felt this impact which has not only affected themselves but also their families. This has inspired GFF HELPS Nepal to create a project that will develop valuable skills and can become a new source of income.

On 13th November 2020, GFF HELPS Nepal team along with CDS and the collaborating partner Kokroma organised a 1-day workshop where 10 women including teenage girls from Shree Balkumari Basic school were trained in preparing hand-made masks, sanitary pads and bags. These practical skills gained in this workshop can bring financial benefit to these women and bring a sense of empowerment in themselves and the women in their community.

Ms. Kanchhi Tamang, one of the participants said “I had lost my job due to the COVID-19, so I’m thankful to Sir Owen for supporting this type of workshop. I learnt to prepare mask, sanitary pad and bag”.

SRIJANSHIL REHABILITATION AND SPECIAL SCHOOL FOR DISABLED

We provided technical support to the school authorities to prepare an assessment form that would provide a complete picture of all the children and their needs. This tool is intended to be handy while recruiting any volunteer or a new staff at the school. Mr. Krishna Lamsal, the Principal of the school expressed his thankfulness for the tool, as it would help them find the much-needed guidance for administrative purposes. So, we at Nepal GFF team are coordinating with the medical personals from different backgrounds such as paediatrics, nurses, nutritionists and physiotherapist to conduct home visits and provide holistic care to the children.
